How It Works

This tool calculates the exact difference between any two dates โ€” past or future โ€” showing the result in years, months, weeks, days, hours, and minutes simultaneously.

Why it's not just total days รท conversion factors

Like the Age Calculator, this tool walks forward from the earlier date to the later one, counting whole years, then whole months, then whole days โ€” rather than computing total days and dividing by an average, which can misrepresent the actual calendar span especially across months of different lengths.

Inclusive vs. exclusive end date

By default, the difference is calculated exclusive of the end date โ€” meaning the count reflects the span between the two dates, not including the end date itself as an extra day. This matches how most everyday "how many days until/since" questions are naturally understood.

Examples

Days until an event

From 13 July 2026 to 25 December 2026: 165 days โ€” useful for countdown planning to a wedding, deadline, or holiday.

Duration of an employment period

From 1 March 2020 to 15 September 2026: 6 years, 6 months, 14 days โ€” useful for calculating tenure, notice periods, or contract durations precisely.

Common Use Cases

  • Counting down (or up) to a specific future event or deadline
  • Calculating exact tenure, contract duration, or time elapsed between two events
  • Legal or administrative date-span calculations (notice periods, waiting periods, eligibility windows)

Tips

  • If you specifically need the count to include the end date as a full day (some legal or contractual contexts require this), manually add one day to your result, since the default calculation is exclusive of the end date.
  • For age specifically (from a birth date to today), the dedicated Age Calculator is a more direct fit since it's purpose-built with age-specific framing and FAQs, even though the underlying date-difference math is the same.
