How It Works
This calculator estimates trip fuel cost from distance, your vehicle's mileage, and the current fuel price — and can split the total cost evenly across passengers for shared trips.
The core formula
Fuel Cost = (Distance ÷ Mileage) × Fuel Price per litre (or per gallon). Distance ÷ Mileage gives the litres or gallons needed for the trip; multiplying by the current fuel price gives the total cost.
Splitting cost by passengers
Once the total fuel cost is calculated, dividing by the number of passengers (including the driver, if you choose) gives a fair per-person share for a shared road trip or carpool.
Examples
A 300 km road trip
Car mileage 18 km/litre, petrol at ₹105/litre: fuel needed = 300 ÷ 18 = 16.67 litres. Cost = 16.67 × 105 ≈ ₹1,750.
Splitting among passengers
The same ₹1,750 trip split among 4 passengers (including driver) comes to ₹437.50 per person.

Tips
- Real-world mileage is usually somewhat lower than a manufacturer's claimed figure, especially in city traffic or with AC running — use your vehicle's actual observed mileage rather than the brochure number for a more accurate estimate.
- For a fair carpool split, decide upfront whether the driver also pays a share (since they bear vehicle wear too) — splitting fuel cost alone doesn't account for maintenance, tolls, or parking.
